Gerald Lee Smythe, 86 of Rotonda West, Fl passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016. He was born on May 13, 1930 in Highland Park, MI to Edwrad and Bertha Priep. Mr. Smythe served in the US Army. He retired from Monsanto Chemical Co. in St. Louis, MO as a Data Processing Manager. Prior to moving to Florida from St. Louis 11 years ago Gerald was a member of the St. Louis Holy Name Society, active in the Boy Scouts and his community, a Lector for the TV Mass in St. Louis and a Lector at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Grove City, FL. His hobbies included computers, automobiles and home improvement projects. Survivors include his wife of 65 years: Mary Lou Smythe, seven children: Cathy (Jim) Silvey of Kansas City, MO; John (Theresa) Smythe of St. Louis, MO; David (Kathy) Smythe of Kansas City, KA; Mary (Rob) Willen of Stover, MO; Susan Smythe (Charles Durrett) of Stover, MO; Carolyn Kallenborn of Madison, WI; Patrick (Gail) Smythe of Muskeegon, MI; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 3, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family prefers contributions in his name to either the Catholic Charities of Salvation Army.
