Ralph Clifford Hoar, 73, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at his Charlotte County residence. Born on February 1, 1943 in Beverly, Massachusetts he had been a resident of Port Charlotte for two years coming from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. An electronics technician Ralph worked for the US Airforce for thirty-three years. After retirement, he worked as a consultant. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge in Falmouth, Massachusetts. He loved golf and was a basketball official for varsity high school games throughout Massachusetts. Survivors include his loving wife of thirty-three years: Diana; one son: Peter (Kim) Hoar of Beverly, MA; daughter: Mary Lou Hoar Page of Salt Lake City, UT; step-daughter: Bobbi Jo (Fred) Machholz of Daphney, AL; one brother: Jim (Joan) Hughes of Glens Falls, NY; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Herman Clifford Jensen, Jr., 89, of Englewood, Florida passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 3, 1926 in Guayama, Puerto Rico he had been a resident of Charlotte County two years coming from Bayshore, New York. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1944-1946. Cliff retired from the New York Telephone Company as a district manager after thirty-six years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a dedicated communicant of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Survivors include his devoted wife of sixty-eight years: Doris; one daughter: Jannette Piehl of Brockville, Ontario, Canada; two sons: Herman “Chip” (Lisa) Jensen, III and Ernest (Tracy) Jensen both of Bayshore, New York; thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Howard Bolin, 90, danced his way to heaven on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Englewood Community Hospital. Howard was born in Granger, Indiana. His parents, Herman and Beatrice, raised Howard and his siblings Evelyn, Beverly and Wilbur with strong Christian values. While serving in Germany, he met his first wife, Johanna. They shared many wonderful memories and adventures with their children Jackie and Michael. After Johanna passed, Howard met his second love, Betty. They have lived their lives to the fullest for twenty four years. Howard’s love of golf brought them to Oyster Creek where they have enjoyed eighteen years of fellowship and friendship. Howard’s heart always smiled when he shared Notre Dame Football stories, the joy of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the comfort of a good pipe! Instead of flowers or memorial contributions, the Bolin family request that well-wishers simply take a moment to be thankful for the blessings of family. Funeral Mass and burial arrangements will be handled by the Bubb Funeral Home in Mishawaka, Indiana. A special tribute for this gentle man will be held at the Oyster Creek Community Center. JANET ARLENE ARNESON, 80, of Rotonda West, Florida passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016 at her Charlotte County residence. Born on August 15, 1936 in Torrington, Connecticut to the late Warren and Anne Kettering Bernard, she had been a resident of Rotonda West for twenty years coming from Fairfax, Virginia. She was a loving and devoted wife to James Arneson who predeceased her in 2000. She loved to travel and had wonderful times and great memories fo her many summers at the beach with family and friends. Raymond M. Beghein, 84, of Englewood, Florida passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at his Charlotte County residence. Born on April 8, 1932 to the late George and Elsie Jones Beghein, he had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. When he came home, he worked in the automotive industry as a tool and die maker in Detroit. He was married to Rose Bouzas until her death. He moved to Englewood in 2001 from Detroit and married LaVerne Levey in 2003. He is pre-deceased by two brothers: George and Louis and his wife Grace and brother-in-law: Floyd Callahan. Survivors include his wife: LaVerne; his four children: Nancy (Steve Kantola), Beghein; Susan Beghein both of Charlevoix, Michigan; Gayle Fuller of Westland, Michigan; David Beghein of Detroit, Michigan; two grandchildren: Amy Little and Sam Kantola; three great grandchildren: Ariahna, Autumn and Chad; six stepchildren; eight step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; one sister: Georgette Callahan of Englewood, Florida; one brother: William (Carole) Beghein of Surprise, Arizona; brother-in-law: Ramiro (Isabel) Bouzas of Redford, Michigan. Born on April 28, 1930 in Worcester, Massachusetts to the late Earl and Alice Eames Whitney, he served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Whitney had retired as a Vice President from Chatman Well Drilling after fifty-one years. He moved to Florida in 2007 from Wilmington, North Carolina. David is pre-deceased by his wife Catherine in 2003, they had been married fifty-one years. Georgia Pauline Allen, 82, of Englewood, FL and Mt. Grove, MO; died Thursday, October 13, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman Ray Allen in November 1999. She was born on December 5, 1933 in Wright County, MO to George W. and Ada (Long) Thornhill. Pauline enjoyed gardening, traveling, card playing, yard saleing and life in general. Survivors include her two children: Marietha Jo (Michael) Leonard of Clinton, AR; Douglas Ray Allen of Isabella, MO; three sisters: Doreen Peterson, Nola Faye Atchison and Jean Littrel all of Mt. Tommy Rex Priest, Jr.
Tommy “Rex” Priest, Jr., 79, of Englewood passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Englewood Community Hospital. Born on November 13, 1936 in Tampa, to the late Tommy Rex and Louise Pierce Priest, he had been a resident of Charlotte County since 1993. Rex was a second generation Floridian who graduated in 1955 from Hillsborough High School in Tampa. He proudly served 36 years for the Seaboard Coastline and then CSX Railroad prior to retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Englewood United Methodist Church. Rex was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was happiest boating, golfing, watching FSU football, traveling in his RV with his beloved wife and pup or scheming a project to be completed. While he loved his home on Pine Bay in Englewood, his heart was always on the Toccoa River in North Georgia. He was enormously proud, dependable, witty and in the eyes of his family, there was nothing he could not build or fix. Or cook. He will be missed dearly and his family will patiently await a heavenly reunion. Survivors include his loving wife of thirty-eight years: Kristin Priest; five daughters: Ashley (Michael) Priest, Tammy (Reggie) Priest, Deborah Casey, Kimberly (Emile) Garcia, Shannon (Chris) Taylor; two sons: Tommy Rex Priest III and Steven (Dana) Braden; two brothers: Dr. David G. Douglas James Nolan, Lieutenant Colonel, US Air Force (Ret) 61, died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital. Born on November 19, 1954 in Memphis, TN to Clifford and Jean (Erskine) Nolan; Lt. Col. Douglas Nolan served in the US Air Force for 23 years. Upon retirement he and his wife Katheryn moved to Port Charlotte in 2002 from his last duty station at Maxwell AFB, AL. He was a member of the Arcadia and Sarasota Gun Clubs and was an avid kayaker with his wife. Survivors include his wife of 33 years: Katheryn, two daughters: Rebecca Blalock of Englewood, FL and Michelle Hammond-Hirschy (Jason) of Arcadia, FL; one brother: Bruce (Paula) Nolan of Mechanicsburg, PA, his best friend: Bob and Paula Snyder of Port Charlotte, FL; six grandchildren: Jessica, Lizzabeth, Jason, Alexis, Laura and Scott. Frank Lester DeFoe, 54, died September 30, 2016 at Englewood Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on January 12, 1962 in Albany, NY to Edward and Elaine (Wendt) Defoe. Feank served in the US Air Force. He moved to Englewood 22 years ago from Bradenton. He enjoyed assembling model planes. He is survived by his wife of 22 years: Mary; 10 siblings: Deborah Smith, Richard DeFoe, Lynn DeFoe, Patrick Foley, Kathryn DeFoe-Criley Michael Foley, Helen Freshwater, Linda Pigliavenpo, Paul Foley and Dale Foley. His beloved dogs: Peach’s and Toby. Frank and Mary were wonderful caregivers to Bernice VerFlius.

Thomas E. “Libbo” Libertini, 63, of Englewood passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016. Born in Waltham, Massachusetts to the late Umberto and Audrey (Letterio) Libertini, Tom had been a resident of Englewood for over 30 years coming from Needham. A plumber by trade he was employed by Babe’s Plumbing then became independently employed. He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed his family. He loved to go fishing and boating with this best friends Tommy and Laura Yenna and Tony and Lucy Poppalardo. Tom was awarded the Eagle Scout Badge by the BSA and loved the outdoors. A big Red Sox fan, he loved rooting for the team and watching the Patriots on the big screen with Tim and Danielle Wright. Libbo also enjoyed going to Bada Bing Restaurant in Venice with his “Honeybunch” Evie Lanza. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. He is pre-deeded in death by his father Umberto and a sister, Loralyn. Survivors include his daughter: Rebecca Marie; grand-daughter: Kira; his mother: Audrey Libertini; brother: Michael Libertini, Sr.; two nephews: Michael and Anthony; his bonus brother: Tommy Yenna; companion: Evie Lanza and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Robert Edward Ervin, Sr., 80, of Rotonda West joined his loving wife, Barbara, in eternal rest on Thursday, September 15, 2016. Born on May 12, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late John and Melva Ervin, Robert served the US Navy. He retired from the Maryland State Police after 21 years with the rank of Sergeant. He ultimately retired from the Department of US Army at Fort Meade, Maryland. Robert is preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 2015 and a son, Robert in 1992. Lewis William Morgan, Sr.
Lewis William Morgan, Sr., 78 of Englewood, FL passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Tidewell Hospice in Englewood. He was born on September 18, 1937 in Guyton, Georgia. Mr. Morgan served in the US Army. He was a lifelong resident of Florida. Lewis was a firefighter for the City of Sarasota and retired with the rank of Battalion Captain. When he moved to the Englewood community he was the Fire Chief of Boca Grande from 1989 to 1996. He attended the Fellowship Church in Rotonda West. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years: Sandra K. Morgan; one daughter: Cindy L. (Jonathan) Spenger of Sarasota; two sons: Lewis W. Morgan, Jr. of North Port and Christopher Morgan of Port Charlotte, five grandchildren and one great grand-daughter. Raymond L. Gulsby, 72, of Port Charlotte passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte. Born on January 28, 1944 in Atmore, Alabama to the late Cecil Gulsby and Mattie Saunders, Raymond had been a resident of the Englewood area since 2012 coming from Fort Payne, Alabama. He was a plumbing contractor prior to his retirement. He is pre-deceased by his wife, Susan in 2013 and a son, Thomas in 2006. Survivors include two sons: David M. (Cynthia) Gulsby and Timothy R. Karin O’Connell, of Englewood, Florida, passed away on September 1, 2016 at the age of 50. Karin was born to parents Robert and Sheila O’Connell, formerly of Weston, CT, on October 13, 1965 in Bridgeport, CT. She grew up as the youngest of three and graduated from Weston High School in Weston, CT and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Karin was employed by a variety of companies and restaurants in CT and Florida in a variety of roles. Karin was a talented artist leaving us memories to cherish in her paintings and caricatures just like her Dad. Karin is survived by Paul Malaterra, the father of their children Robert Malaterra and Brianna Malaterra; her brother Kevin O’Connell of New York City; her sister Lisa O’Connell of Bridgeport, CT; her aunt Eleanor Dann of Weston, CT, her uncle James Mahoney and his wife Louise of Palm City, FL; the grandparents of Karin and Paul’s children: John and Joanne Godwin of Englewood, FL; her first cousins Carl Mahoney, Leah Mahoney, and Chris Dann along with many second cousins. Ellen I. McArthur
Ellen McArthur (91), wife of Lester McArthur both longtime Kane and Ludlow resident passed away in Englewood, FL Sept. 4, 2016. Ellen was born on June 1, 1925, a daughter of Rex and Roxie Carpenter of Townville, PA. Ellen and Les met at her 1946 college graduation, from Indiana State Teachers College (today’s IUP) and were married June 11, 1947, to begin the era of Les and Ellen. Mrs. McArthur was a Home Economics teacher at Kane Area High School for over 30 years. The number of young people that she fostered in this role is in the thousands. Ellen and Lester spent 40 years together and were very active in numerous organizations in Ludlow and Kane area. Ellen was part of the Ludlow American Legion Auxiliary, Girl Scouts, FHA, Four Fold, Kane Presbyterian Church, Kane Country Club and a long list of other community focused clubs, charities and social organizations; hosting uncountable numbers of meetings, parties and dinners, as well as her teaching career. Ellen and Lester were both foster parents and hosts for foreign exchange students that came to Kane. Both of them remained very close to their foreign exchange student daughter Dr. Anke Putzka of Germany and traveled frequently to visit her here in the U.S. when Anke participated as part of joint German Aerospace Center at NASA as well as numerous trips to Germany. Ellen and Lester traveled extensively until Lester’s passing in 1988, shortly after their move to Englewood Fl. Ellen has spent over 25 years wanting to be reunited with Lester, whom she missed greatly. She is survived by Anke Putzka of Celle, Germany and nieces and nephews: Lonna Hudson of Moundsville, WV, Larry Carpenter of Englewood, FL, Lola Pringle of Winchester, VA and James Tanner of Elkins, WV, Debbie Tanner-Jacobs of Austin, TX, Andrea Mayo of Erie, PA, Ed Wright of Bradford, PA Pam Wright and Linda Gilmore of Kane, PA and Bill McArthur and Larry McArthur of Onalaska, WI. Judy B. Spencer passed into the arms of the Lord the morning of September 5, 2016 at 7:30 AM. She She began life on July 15, 1943 as Judith Elizabeth Borlish. Her parents Van Borlish and Pauline Gruber Borlish (both deceased) lived in Bridgeport, CT. at the time. They moved to Hartford, CT where Judy graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1961and went to work for Travelers Insurance Company. In 1967, she met Wayne Spencer, fell in love and married him in June 1968. They had 48 wonderful years together. During that time she had a career at Stop & Shop in CT which she retired from and raised two girls. Michelle (Jim) Gesin and Kerri (Todd) Albano, who gave her the pride of he life, her four grandchildren; Rachel Gesin, Carley Gesin, Spencer Albano and JT Albano. She retired and moved to her dream home in Florida in 2001, where she lived out the remainder of her years. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Patricia Ferland. George H. Delaney, 66, of Rotonda West passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Englewood Community Hospital. He was born on July 29, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan and he served in the US Navy. George was an accountant for the Department of Defense for thirty years until he retired in 2004 and moved to Florida from Warren, Michigan. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Grove City and a member of their Knight of Columbus Council.
