Philip Leroy Chamberlain

Philip Leroy Chamberlain, LTC, US Army (Ret), 92 of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2016. He was born on April 30, 1924 in Jaffrey, NH to Clifton and Alice Chamberlain. Col. Chamberlain retired from the US Army in October 1968 at Ft. Gordon, GA after 25 years of service. He was involved with the invasion of Okinowa in 1945 and in the Korean War in 1953. He received the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal. Philip later became president of Chuck’s Marina, Inc. in Englewood. A member of the Englewood Kiwanis Club, he held a general class license for Amateur Radio Operator, he was an ardent fisherman and loved to play golf. He is survived by his sister Jessie Hope of Dallas, NC; his step-daughter: Sandra Astley of Putney, VT; eight grandchildren: Johnny Chamberlain of Port Charlotte, FL; Christy Hurley of Summerville, SC; Donald and Philip Astley, Lisa Domain, Shane, Timothy and Dennis LaFlam and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Philip was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Iona Pearl Chamberlain in September 2008, his son Robert Chamberlain, step-daughter Penelope LaFlam, and a sister: Beverly Chamberlain. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM (at which time the US Army and AL Post 113 will render Military Honors) at Englewood Community Funeral Home, Inc. 3070 S. McCall Rd. His urn will be interred at Sarasota National VA Cemetery. The family requests contributions in his honor be made to the Douglas T.
